This is the Internet Attic, where years of discarded, forgotten websites have collected dust for the past decade. Back before we got bored of Facebook, before we stopped posting YouTube response videos, and even before we deleted our MySpace accounts, we lived in an age of dial-up modems, chat rooms, AOL, and (most importantly) homepages. Back in this golden age, people like you and me spent hours authoring truly hilarious original content. As time passed, however, we increasingly placed our homepages, fan sites, etc. into the Internet Attic and promptly forgot about our truest passions.
Please join me as I exhume these buried sites, analyze their historical and cultural signifigance, and critique them for substance and style. As this project moves forward, keep an eye out for aspects of these sites that make them true gems, such as:
- Absurd topics
- Dated pop culture references
- Grammatical, spelling, and syntax errors
- Animated GIFs
- Background music
- Broken links
- Page visitor counters
- Guestbooks
It is imperative to locate and save these gems of the Early Internet Era, to rescue and celebrate these forgotten websites, which hold some of the funniest content on the internet. This is my mission.
